Then Comes Affliction To Awaken The Dreamer

Composed of former Extol drummer
David Husvik and Lunaris bassist Erik Aadland, as well as ex-Spiral Architect
members Kaj Gornitzka and Leif Knashaug, "Then
Comes Affliction To Awaken The Dreamer" is a bizarro prog odyssey in the
truest sense of the word.
With a dizzying sea-sickness, this disc writhes uncontrollably in both harsh and serene waters at once. What we have here is Dream Theatre gone jazz metal, with a prog nature so futuristic you'd think that humanity had reached the point where evolution had grown a sixth finger on each hand. Usually when something like this slabs on your plate, it's a rumbling, incoherent mess of technicality. "Then Comes Affliction..." actually has a general cohesion that works well in the grand design. This is not to say that it runs of tangents that could have perhaps been sharper if trimmed slightly here and there, but I am not one to judge so harshly because these fellas' are all masters of their respective instruments. It'll be way over the heads of the general mainstream listener, but any prog champion will raise this into the air like Rocky's post-Apollo devastation fist. Anyone into seeking a mish-mashed version of Yakuza, Arcturus, Requiem Aeternum, Solefald, and Amorphis will find this quite worthy. Ryan Bartek
