The Rotted
The Rotted - Get Dead or Die Trying
(Metal Blade, 2008)
After releasing several brutal albums such as "Mutilated in Minutes", "Only Tools and Corpses" and "A New Dawn for the Dead", our very own Gorerotted have taken a big and brave step of changing their name to "The Rotted".
The band have stated that due to the huge progression they've made from previous releases musically and lyrically and after frequent line-up changes that this was the only right thing to do.
They may have dropped most of their gore elements if favour of a more technical approach, but I wouldn't necessarily say "Get Dead Or Die Trying" is a total shift in style, maybe more of a natural progression or extension of everything that was good about Gorerotted...A schizophrenic hybrid of extreme metal and punk hardcore violence. Granted, the opener "Nothing But A Nosebleed" will have you wondering whether the name change was actually worth it, but as the album progresses, The Rotted really do showcase some brutal, but ultimately more technical and catchy stuff.
The later tracks such as the punky "Angel of Meth" (chaotic and groovy as hell, probably one of the best tracks on here), "Kissing You With My Fist" and "A Brief Moment of Regret" (which oddly happens to have made it onto the Topshop/Topman Play list in the UK) really show just how far they’ve come.
I'm sure the debate will continue whether the name change was worth it, but the UK needs some quality brutal stuff at the moment and "Get Dead or Die Trying" will do nicely thank you very much!
