It's clear when listening to these young Poles that they are going to have a very bright future ahead of them. Founding member and lead guitarist/vocalist Michal Kostrzynski has not long turned 22, yet is really at the forefront of the band. His vocals and melodic, creative lead work basically carries the majority of the songs. Despite his young age, he has already been proclaimed as an “amazing, new-born and gifted guitarist who's technique and the way of playing shape up so well”.
Vocally, his gravely style reminds me a lot of Tom Angelripper (Sodom), and, if you can image him fronting Children of Bodom minus the keyboards, you instantly have a good description of what Made of Hate are all about. I'm not saying that they are complete rip-off's though, because that can't be further from the truth. There are a few moments that are reminiscent of Children of Bodom, but there is still enough individuality on here to keep the album sounding fresh and interesting throughout. There are more than a few occasions throughout each of the songs when Michal Kostrzynski will go on one of his many ambitious lead runs. Some do seem as though it's not really going anywhere, but the majority showcase some fantastic musicianship and lead work that actually sounds like it has been thought about and painstakingly crafted, without ever sounding over the top. There are a few minor gripes that I found with Made of Hate, but that will improve with time and experience. What they have managed achieved on this though, their debut album, is nothing short of amazing. With MoH, AFM have managed to find a very exciting, young band. Chris Rogers
