Insomnia

I'm not going to even pretend that I know anything about (hed) p.e, because I don't. I received their last album "Back to Base X" and lets just say that it wasn't the best album that I've ever heard.
I'm also not going to pretend that I get what (hed) p.e. are all about, because I don't at all. The so-called pioneers of G-Punk (a combination of Gangsta-Rap and Punk) just sound like they aren't too sure what they want to do. Combining Punk, Reggae, Funk, Hip Hop, Rap and general Rock, the album on a whole is just a mish mash of ideas that don't really come together as a whole. "Insomnia" is also somewhat of a concept album that takes listeners on a journey of self-realization and discovery of the social situation on the planet. There is all sorts of things going on, including narrations and a terrorist/war theme going on throughout. As well as that, there are also some tongue-in-cheek and perhaps even slightly juvenile songs. There are a couple of heavier ones on here, as well as a some "punky" moments, and they work really well, the first single "Suffa" and the Rage Against the Machine sounding "Walk on By" is a prime example of what I'm talking about. It's just the whole Hip Hop and Reggae on the rest of the album that really turns me off. Slightly better than "Back to Base X" but apart from a couple of tracks, there is nothing that I can really recommend. Chris Rogers
