Gentlemen of Distorted Sound - Bone Idol EP
(Bare Knuckle Recordings, 2010)

Now this is a pleasant surprise! Fronted by a distant cousin of non other than Ted Nugent, these UK sleaze rockers have released a hard driving, groove-laden 5-Track EP that provides a perfect taste of what we can expect, and I for one am quite excited.

The opening two tracks "Electric" and "Beautiful Face (For Evil)" are reminiscent of The Cult, albeit a heavier version. They then slow things down quite a bit with "The Gods" which, whilst not as upbeat as the first two, shows a different side to the band. They then take the instantly recognizable "La Grange" by ZZ Top and combine it with Grand Funk Railroad's "Shinin' On" which they funnily enough call "La Grange (Shinin' On)". This not only shows that the G.O.D.S can come up with some great ideas but it's also an indication of some of their influences.

They definitely have saved the best for last however, with the mighty "Breathe". This bad-boy is a heavy riff-driven track that is by far the highlight of the EP. This is the sort of thing I would personally love to hear more of when (and not if) they release a full-length album.

"Bone Idol" is a fantastic introduction to the band, which you can pick up for a measly couple of quid...what are you waiting for!
