Eden's Curse
Eden's Curse - The Second Coming
(AFM Records, 2008)
OK, so maybe I was a little harsh when I reviewed their debut last year, but at the end of that review, I did say that I wasn't going to write them off just yet and that they would return with one hell of an album. Well that time is now; "The Second Coming" is indeed, one hell of an album.
Whilst I had a couple of gripes with their debut, there is simply nothing bad to say about "The Second Coming". They have really moved up a gear or two and pulled out all the stops on this one, with every single track a joy to listen to. Everything just sounds bigger and better. The whole album is unbelievably catchy and moving, and will have you singing along all the way through. If I had to pick a favorite, I'd have to say "Sail On". If you're only to listen to one track before making a decision, make sure it's this one.
There's nothing overly complex, but with song writing skills of this magnitude you don't need instrumental or technical wizardry. Mind you, when guitarist Thorsten Koehne gets going, he is unbelievable. You'll be hard pushed to find a melodic metal album as good as this, not only this year, but the last few.
