Bloodhorse finds inspiration from classic heavy rock groups as well as current stoner doom heavyweights. The band cites Deep Purple and the Who as major influences. These influences become known through the vintage sound and heavy bluesy notes, as well as elongated jam sessions like "The Goat". Clocking in at over seven minutes, the said track is an instrumental (the only lyrics are "yeah") focusing on the bands ability to rock out. This up beat number includes a multi-faceted drum solo near the end of the track, possibly paying homage to the late, great Keith Moon.

In many places, Bloodhorse kicks out the jams (they also cite MC5 as an influence), playing with much gusto and high energy. The doom tag is no error, though. In nearly as many places one will find the group downshifting into a doomy viscosity. "Bloodhorse" and "I'm Burned" are two examples of Sabbath-like slothful grooves. The later track begins quietly with tumbling drums and bass and soft cymbal play. The music shifts dynamically when the electric guitar cuts in and brings down the hammer! Simplistic bass lines welcome in "Bloodhorse". As the bass line is repeated, more elements come into the mix, gradually intensifying the song before hitting an energetic stride midway through the track. The group's ability to play at different speeds yet retain a sludgy sound brings to mind High on Fire.

Bloodhorse does not produce the somber tones associated with many bands of the doom fold. Nor do they rely on a great deal of psychedelic effects marked by many stoner rock bands. One could say Bloodhorse isn't an extreme album by any means. It should, however, find acceptance in the traditional doom and stoner rock crowd due to the band's exceptional song arrangements, memorable riffs, and overall heaviness.
